迈克尔·厄尔比，Michael Irby was raised in Palm Springs, California. After high school, he moved to New York City and studied at the AADA. He began working in the off-broadway theater scene in Terrence McNally's, Corpus Christi, and Stuck, by Jessica Goldberg.
